Neurology

We offer diagnosis and care of patients with neurological disorders with special interest in Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, stroke, neuromuscular diseases, epilepsy, and myasthenia gravis. Four faculty members, two consultants, two associate consultants and three fellows who are accredited in Neurology run the clinical services in Neurology. There are a total of 44 members of in the Division including: 17 clinical nurses, 5 nursing officer, one nursing officer responsible for TIA services, 4 neurodiagnostic unit staff, and 4 research assistants.

Clinical care activities include in-patient neurology services are located in the Neurology Ward at Queen Mary Hospital. Neurology ward composed of an acute stroke unit with 9 acute stroke beds and 3 high dependency beds and thirteen general neurology beds including 1 bed with video EEG monitoring facility. In addition, we also provide consultations and neurodiagnostic services to Hong Kong West cluster hospitals, including Queen Mary Hospital (1444 beds), Tung Wah Hospital (707 beds), Fung Yiu King Hospital (296 beds) and The Grantham Hospital (579 beds). The population in our catchment area is over 500,000.

The Neurology Outpatient Clinics handles approximately 7000 patient-visits a year in its general neurology and subspecialty clinics. We operate a general neurology clinic on every Friday morning whereas, several clinics are designated for specific disorders, namely, epilepsy clinic, combined epilepsy surgery clinic, movement disorder clinic, stroke clinic, TIA clinic and botulinum toxin clinic (schedule see below).

The Neurodiagnostic facilities located at E7 of Queen Mary Hospital provides a full range of services for over 5000 patient-test per year. Our facilities include electroencephalography, long-term video electroencephalography, nerve conduction studies, electromyography, evoked potentials, intraoperative monitoring, transcranial doppler studies and polysomnography.

Specialist Outpatient Clinics

The Specialist Outpatient Clinic at Queen Mary Hospital only accepts appointments (with referral letters) for patients in the catchman area of the Hong Kong West Cluster. Non-HK residents will be charged appropriate fees set by the Hospital. There are NO walk-in service available, all cases are by appointment only and all referrals are triaged.
